Stephen Levorchick has spent his adult life protecting people and serving Northwest Ohio.
He began his law-enforcement career in 1984 as an auxiliary officer with the Pemberville Police Department. That same year, he completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Owens Technical College.
Stephen began serving Ottawa County in 1985 as a Catawba Island Township patrolman. He joined the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 1987 and went on to serve as Patrol Sergeant, Detective, and Captain of Operations. In that command role, he oversaw road patrol, investigations, civil operations, and other essential public-safety functions.
After retiring in 2010, Stephen returned in September 2011 to serve as Ottawa County Sheriff. He continues in that office today, and the county’s published elected-official roster lists his current term through 2028.
His record includes Deputy of the Year honors in 1999, eight commendation and merit awards across patrol, investigations, special response, and underwater recovery, and a 2009 Lifesaving Award for helping a choking man in a restaurant.
The Sheriff’s Office biography also reports that, during his tenure as sheriff, Stephen reduced the annual budget by more than $75,000 and generated more than $100,000 for the county’s general fund through county-benefiting initiatives and programs.
Stephen and Lori live on Catawba Island. They are the proud parents of two sons, Collin and Noah, and grandparents. Away from work, Stephen values time with family and enjoys weight training, golf, fishing, and hunting.

A career of continued learning
Stephen is an Eastwood High School graduate, completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in 1984, and graduated from the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police’s Police Executive Leadership College in 2018.

His background includes patrol, detective work, tactical response, rescue and ice diving, underwater recovery, emergency management, crisis response, and instructor-level law-enforcement training.
Contributing across Ohio
Stephen has served in leadership and committee roles with the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association, including work focused on funeral and mourning support and medical and mental health issues in county jails.
Invested in Ottawa County
His affiliations include local public-safety associations, community and faith organizations, and advisory roles supporting law-enforcement and emergency-preparedness education at regional schools.

Stephen was a founding member of the Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and a charter member of both its Special Response Team and Underwater Recovery Team.
